The Breckenridge Bucks overcame a 5-0 first inning deficit to defeat the Carlos Cougars 10-6 on Sunday in a Countryside League Amateur Baseball contest in Carlos.  Breckenridge tallied 19 hits in the high-scoring affair.

Mitch Porter (9IP, 13H, 6R, 9K) weathered the early storm to complete the game on the mound and earn the win.

Offensive leaders for Breckenridge were Cam Nieto (3-6, 2B, 3RBI, 2R), Jeremy Stack (3-5, 2B, 2RBI, R, BB), Porter (3-6, RBI, R), Austin Ramos (3-5, RBI, R), Jack Hiedeman (2-5, R, SAC), Chris Nieto (2-4, R, BB) and Jared Aamold (2-4, RBI, R, BB).

“I was super proud of all of our guys today,” commented Breckenridge Head Coach Kevin Hiedeman.  “Carlos started the game with 6 consecutive hits, scoring 5 runs in the first inning but the Bucks never panicked.  They came back in the top of the second and scored four of their runs on two huge doubles by Cam Nieto and Jeremy Stack.  Mitch Porter made an adjustment after the first inning and shut Carlos down until the seventh when they scored their only other run.  Defensively, we played great.  Knowing we didn’t have much relief today, Mitch took the ball said ‘I’ll finish the game’ to pick up the win.  Austin Ramos made two huge scoops at first base for third outs to save runs.  Chris Nieto made a couple of nice plays at second and Jack Hiedeman turned in two unassisted 6 to 3 double plays to get us out of some jams with men on base.  Jace Hegge made several nice plays at third base and Jared Aamold is an anchor behind the plate and his two hits came at critical times in the game. It was a gutty performance by all our guys today.”

The win was the twelfth of the season for the Bucks, who will play their final home game of the year on Friday night against Dent.

Bryce Ludwig (4-5, 2B, RBI, R) was the top hitter for the Cougars.
