Boys State Golf Tournament (First Round Results)

The Minnesota State High School Golf Tournaments are underway with the Class A Boys playing at Pebble Creek Golf Course in Becker and the Class AA Boys playing at Ridges at Sand Creek in Jordan.

Perham’s Marcus Belka is fifth in the AA individual tournament after firing a 75 on Tuesday.  Jacob Ferrin of Southwest Christian and Sam Udovich of St. Croix Lutheran are tied for the lead with scores of 71.

Fergus Falls golfers Riley McGovern and Ryan Nelson turned in scores of 81 and 84, respectively, and Jack Justesen of Hawley came in with an 82.

Pine Island/Zumbrota leads the team competition with a score of 309 and Totino-Grace is second with a 320.  Section 8 chamion Rosean is third at 322, followed by Holy Family Catholic 326, Pequot Lakes 330, New London-Spicer 331, Cloquet 332 and Blake School 343.

Fertile-Beltrami leads the Class A team competition after recording a score of 323, ten shots better than Marshall School of Duluth (333).  Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa is third with a 339, followed by Lakeview 346, Park Christian School 355, New Life Academy 360, United North Central 362 and Rushford-Peterson 391.

Cole Witherow of New Life Academy and Noah Scullard-Bender of Marshal School share the first round lead of the individual tournament with rounds of 73.

Trevor Swonger of Underwood is in thirteenth place with a first round score of 81.  His teammate, Hudson Risbrudt shot a 95 on Tuesday.

Ortonville’s Owen Longnecker fired an 85 and DRU Boots came in with a 101. 

Dawson Wienbar of Breckenridge carded a first round 95.

The Alexandria Cardinals are tied for third place with Lakeville North in the Class AAA Tournament with scores of 304.  Edina is first with a 298 and Spring Lake Park is second with a 301.

Individually, Jack Wetzel of Edina and Nate Stevens of Northfield share the lead with 70’s.  Alexandria’s Bennett Olsen is in a five-way tie for third, one shot back with a 71.
