Yellowjackets Eliminate DGF, Stay Alive in 8AA with Win Over Roseau

The Perham Yellowjackets recorded two exciting victories in the Section 8AA baseball playoffs on Thursday in Park Rapids and will now battle Roseau at noon on Friday for the Section title and berth in the Class AA State Baseball Tournament.  Perham blanked DGF 1-0 in an elimination game, earning the opportunity to face Roseau in the championship round.  The Yellowjackets avenged their 8-3 loss on Tuesday to the Rams with a 5-3 win in 11 innings.

Against the Rebels, Gage Germolus (6IP, 2H, 0R, 5K, 3BB) was superb on the mound and Blaiz Schmidt earned the save with a perfect inning of relief.

Losing pitcher Austin Anderson (4.1IP, 5H, 1ER, 4K, 0BB) was also impressive on the mound and Kaden Altobelli pitched one-and-two-thirds innings of hitless, scoreless relief.

The only run of the game came in the fifth inning when Evan Kovash doubled and scored on a base hit by Chas MelvinAustin Aanenson, Rian Solberg and Logan Pulju all collected singles in the game.

Perham and Roseau had quite a battle in the second game of the day with the Yellowjackets needing a win to stave off elimination.  The game was tied at 2-2 after seven innings, forcing extra innings.  Each team scored a run in the tenth to put the game into an eleventh inning where Perham was able to push across a pair of runs for the win.

Perham was led at the plate by Solberg (2-5, 2 2B, 2RBI), Kovash (2-3, 2BB, R), Schmidt (2-3,2BB, R), Pulju (2-5), Melvin (1-5, BB, 2R) and Aanenson (SF, 2RBI).

Melvin (7IP, 4H, 2R, 1ER, 9K, 4BB) was the starting pitcher, with Schmidt (1.1IP, 2K), Ashton Detloff (1.1IP, 2H, 1ER, 2K) and Gamble Bye (1.1IP, 1K, 1BB) all taking a turn on the mound with Bye earning the win.
