Rebels Open AA State Softball Tournament with Win Over Defending Champs

Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton had a tough first round draw in the Class AA State Softball Tournament on Thursday at Caswell Park in North Mankato as they had to face the defending AA State champs from LeSueur-Henderson.  The Rebels were ready, taking a 3-0 lead after three innings and holding on for a 4-2 victory.  Mallory Leitner (7IP, 6H, 2ER, 3BB, 5K) as sharp in the circle and also drove in a pair of runs with a double.

Other hitting leaders for the Rebels were Evelyn Moe (2-4, RBI, R), MaKayla Bjelland (1-4, 2R), Skylar Spessard (2-3, RBI) and Kaleigh Peterson (1-3, R).

DGF scored in the first inning on a base hit by Bjelland, a passed ball and a single by Spessard.  They increased their lead to 3-0 with a pair of third inning runs.  Moe singled, Bjelland reached on a throwing error and both scored on Leitner’s two-base hit.  LeSueur-Henderson picked up a pair of sixth inning runs to trim the Rebels lead to 3-2, however, DGF got a run back in the seventh when Moe knocked in Peterson with a two-out base hit.

Chloe Brandt struck out 11 DGF batters and did not issue a walk but was tagged with the loss.

DGF now faces Chatfield in a championship semifinal game.
