The Fergus Falls girls’ and boys’ track and field teams traveled to Alexandria on Saturday for day two of the Section 8AA meet.  Full results can be found at https://www.athletic.net/TrackAndField/meet/474062/results.

“Our 4x800 relay team started us off this morning with a sixth place medal finish, turning in a 30 second PR,” reported Fergus Falls Girls Head Coach Niki Welde.  “Olivia Swanson, Naomi Dummer, Violet McConn and Savannah Lee are the members of that relay.  Megan Tossett joined them on the medal stand with a sixth place finish in the triple jump.  We travel with Ainsley Hansen to the State meet next Friday at St. Michael-Albertville High School.”

The Otter boys had two runners competing in the 100 meter dash finals with Isaac Job finishing fifth (11.49) and Owen Babolian placing eighth (11.63).

Alex Jensen followed up his section championship in the shot put by winning the discus title on Saturday with a throw of 140-feet-10-inches.  Layton Drouillard finished second in the discus with a throw of 140-feet-3-inches, also qualifying for the state meet.

Luke Newman joined Jensen as a state qualifier with a second place finish in the high jump (5-11.00).  Jordan Lee (pole vault) and Shane Zierden (triple jump) qualified for state in their events in the first round of the Section 8AA meet on Wednesday in Detroit Lakes.

The Otters put their 4x100 relay team of Jordan Lee, Shane Zierden, Owen Babolian and Isaac Job on the medal stand with a fourth place finish (44.74), while their 4x800 relay team of Jaden Miller, Tommy Erickson, Conrad Lobb and David Ronnevik (8:36.23) took fifth place.

“I am proud of our team in how we performed in the section meet,” said Head Coach Derek Meyer. “Many last runs, throws and jumps. Relays and individuals had their best or tied best. That’s the way we want to finish a season.  I am excited for those that qualified for the state meet. They have been consistent all season competing a high level. They gained some state level experience at True Team State and will bring that to the table Friday and Saturday.”
