Fergus Falls traveled to Perham for a pair of Section 6A contests on Thursday.  The Otters outslugged DGF 14-12 in the first game and then lost to the number one team in the North Sub-Section, Perham, 8-1.

“The Otters won a slugfest with DGF,” reported Fergus Falls Head Coach Kevin Pearson.  “The wind was a huge factor as it was blowing out to right field.  Things got interesting in the seventh as DGF got the tying run to second base, but Carston Fronning was able to shut the door to get the save.  Colin Becker (4IP, 7H, 6ER, 4BB, 1K) got the win and multiple guys had more than one hit.”

Fergus Falls played errorless ball in the field and had 13 hits on the day.  They were led at the plate by Becker (3-5, 2B, 2RBI, 2R), Fronning (2-5, 3B, 2RBI, 2R), Ethan Gronwold (2-4, RBI, 2R, BB), Owen Krueger (2-4, R, BB), Cole Zierden (1-4, RBI, 2R) and Carter Thielke (2-3, 2B, RBI, 3R, 2BB, SB).  Andrew Johnson knocked in a run with a base hit in four at bats.

Leaders for DGF were Jordan Summers (5-5, 2RBI, 2R), Grant Anderson (3-5, 3B, 4RBI, R), Kayden Camacho (1-4, 2RBI, BB) and Kaden Altobelli (2-3, 2B, 3R, BB).

Perham then handed the Otters their first loss of the tournament with a solid pitching performance from Chas Melvin (6IP, 5H, 0R, 1BB, 8K).  They were led at the plate by Ben Shumansky (3-4, 2B, HR, 2RBI, 2R), Melvin (2-3, 2B, HR, 2RBI, 3R, BB), Gamble Bye (2-3, HR, RBI, 2R) and Rian Solberg (1-4, HR, 3RBI, R).  Offensive leaders for Fergus Falls were Ethan Gronwold (2-3, R), Andrew Johnson (2-3) and Carter Thielke (1-3, SB, RBI, BB).

“Perham used 4 home runs and a total of 10 hits to score 8 runs against us,” noted Pearson.  We only had 3 hits against Chas Melvin.  He threw very well today.  He pounded the strike zone and was ahead of our hitters all day long.  I was very happy with our defensive effort.  It was an extremely difficult day to be in the field, and overall, I thought we did a good job.”

Fergus Falls will face Warroad in an elimination game at 2:00pm Tuesday at Park Rapids.
