Breck/Wahp Defeats Top-Seeded Frazee, Falls to Hawley in 8AA Softball Action

Breckenridge/Wahpeton pulled off a first round upset of top-seeded Frazee on Thursday in the Section 8AA Softball playoffs.  Breck/Wahp posted a decisive 15-4 win over the Hornets.  They moved on to drop a 4-1 decision to the Hawley Nuggets in their second day of the game.

In the first game the Storm won with only 6 hits, but took advantage of 11 walks and 6 Frazee errors.  Leading hitters were Abi Bronson (1-4, HR, 5RBI, 2R, SB), Adi Dodge (2-3, 2RBI, R), Morgan Bruns (1-3, 2RBI, R, 2B), Ana Erickson (1-4, 2RBI, R, SB), Sydni Roberts (0-2, 3SB, RBI, 3R) and Abby Johnson (1-3, RBI, R).  Mia Dodge (6IP, 5H, 4R, 3ER, 2BB, 7K) went the distance to earn the win in the circle.

Annika Reierson (2-2, 2SB, R), Faith Hamm (2-3, 3B) and Malena Mahoney (2SB, 3R) were the leaders at the plate for the Hornets.

Hawley received an excellent pitching performance from Elle Hastings (7IP, 4H, 1ER, 12K, 0BB) in their 4-1 win over the Storm.  Offensive leaders for the Nuggets were Hastings (1-3, 2R), Kylie Crabtree (1-2, 3B, R) and Izzy Steer (0-1, RBI, R, 3SB).

Dodge (6IP, 3H, 4R, 0ER, 2BB, 8K) pitched another strong game, but her defense failed her with 5 errors.  Anaka Lysne drove in the only run for the Storm with a single and Ana Erickson (1-3, 2B, R) scored their lone run.

Breckenridge/Wahpeton advances to round 3 in the elimination bracket on Tuesday at 2:00pm in Thief River Falls against Roseau.

Hawley will face Thief River Falls in a 3:30pm contest.
