Anna Bright (7IP, 7H, 2ER, 5BB, 5K) and Katie Reber (6IP, 7H, 4R, 3ER, 5BB, 4K) locked up in an excellent pitchers’ duel on Tuesday as Wheaton/Herman-Norcross survived the elimination round of the Section 6A Softball Tournament with a 4-2 win over Rothsay Tigers.

The game was tied at 2-2 after 3 innings, but the Warriors pushed across single runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to gain the lead and went on to claim the victory.  Wheaton/Herman-Norcross moves on to face top-seeded Hancock at 3:00pm Thursday at Minnewaska Area High School in Glenwood.

The Warriors were led by Jordyn Perry (2-4, 2B, RBI, R), Emily Drewicke (1-2, 2B, SB, BB, RBI, R), Sadie Vipond (2-3, 2B, RBI) and Lydia Vipond (1-2, RBI, BB).

Kenadi Carlsrud (3-4, 2B, RBI, R) and Madison Tillman (1-2, RBI, BB) led the offensive effort by Rothsay.

Rothsay scored their runs on a first inning RBI single by Carlsrud and a RBI single by Tillman in the third, knocking in Carlsrud who had doubled with two outs.  The Tigers had the bases loaded in the top of the sixth but failed to bring a run home.  They also had two runners on base in the top of the seventh but were unable to score.

“It was such a fun season for these girls,” said Rothsay Head Coach Anita Heier. “I'm so proud of all these girls and everything they have done for the development of our program here in Rothsay. Abby Honer and Chase Balken were great senior leaders for us. They have definitely left their mark on Rothsay softball.”
