Brandon-Evansville defeated Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale 7-4 in the first round of the Section 6A softball playoffs on Tuesday.  The Chargers had 11 hits compared to 2 for Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale.  B-E also capitalized on four errors by the Raiders, leading to a pair of unearned runs.

Taylin Kramer (7IP, 2H, 4R, 1ER, 6BB, 9K) picked up the win in the circle.  Hitting leaders included Kaytlyn Pattrin (2-3, RBI, 2R, BB), Claire Boesl (2-3, RBI, R, BB), Kendra Klimek (2-3, RBI, 2B, BB) and Sydney Schaefer (2-5, R, 2SB).

“We came out ready to play right away and got out to an early lead in the first inning setting up the momentum we needed throughout the game,” said Brandon-Evansville Head Coach Kasi Sieling. “Taylin did an excellent job in the circle throwing strikes and keeping their batters from getting anything going. Our defense did a nice job of making the plays behind her to prevent the Raiders from putting a rally together. Offensively, our whole lineup did a good job of hitting the ball hard and being aggressive on the bases. This was a great team win and we’re excited to be able to still have life in this postseason.”

Madison Schmitz and Keira Bertram each had one hit and knocked in a run for the Raiders.

The Chargers will face top-seeded Upsala on Thursday at 3:00pm in Browerville.
