FF 11U Team Loses in Semi's at Little Falls Weekend Tournament

The Fergus Falls Otters 11u baseball team traveled to Little Falls this weekend for a tournament and lost in the semifinals 5-4 to Pierz.

The Otters started the tournament with pool play games against Alex Red and Rockford. Fergus came out on top against Alex Red 22-12 in a good old-fashioned slugfest. Hitting leaders for the Otters were Dexter Felstul with 3 hits (1b, 2b, and 3b) and 6 RBI, Landon Noon with 3 hits (1b and 2 2b’s),  Chase Johnston with 3 hits (1b and 2 3b’s) and 2 RBI, Isaac Jenc with 2 hits and 5 RBI, Hayden Heruth with 2 doubles, Gus Proudfoot with 2 hits (1b and 2b), Weston Youngberg with a triple, and Jace Kremeier with a single. Beau Schlosser and Cade Johnson each walked multiple times and scored.

In the second game against Rockford, the Otters hit first with Jenc reaching base, bringing up Felstul who smashed a home run over the center field fence for a 2-0 lead for the Otters. Rockford came out strong and scored 4 runs in the bottom of the first. The Otters showed their resiliency by tying the game with Johnston leading off the inning with a double and coming around to score. Schlosser doubled and came around to score on Kremeier’s double. Antwone Danielson also singled in the inning. The Otters scored 2 each in the 3rd and the 5th with Jenc scoring once, Felstul scoring twice and Proudfoot doubling and coming around to score on Felstul’s triple. The Otters ended up 1-1 in pool play and got the 3 seed for bracket play.

Felstul started on the bump for the Otters in the quarterfinal game and pitched a masterful 5 2/3 innings striking out 9 and only giving up 2 hits. As they had done all tournament, the Otters jumped on the board in the first inning with Jenc tripling and coming around to score on Felstul’s single. Heruth doubled and scored Felstul and Noon. The Otters scored 4 in the bottom of the 3rd with Heruth doubling in Jenc and Felstul and Noon and Heruth crossing the plate on past balls. With the win, the Otters moved on to the semifinals on Sunday.

Against Pierz, the Otters started out with a bang with Jenc reaching and scoring on Felstul’s double. Noon doubled in Felstul and came around to score on Johnston’s single. Isaac Jenc started and pitched a great game for the Otters going 3 2/3 innings while striking out 8 and giving the Otters a chance to make it to the championship. Pierz came back in the bottom of the 1st to tie up the game. Pierz got the lead in the second by scoring 1. The Otters tied it up in the third with Felstul doubling and coming around to score on Noon’s single. Pierz scratched the winning run across in the 4th. Johnston relieved Jenc and pitched an inning and a third without giving up a hit.

Hitting leaders for the tournament were Felstul with 9 hits (3 1b’s, 3 2b’s, 2 3b’s and 1 HR), Jenc with 6 hits (4 1b’s, 1 2b, and 1 3b), Noon with 5 hits (2 1b’s and 3 2b’s), Johnston with 5 hits (2 1b’s, 1 2b, and 2 3b’s), Heruth with 5 hits (5 2b’s), Proudfoot with 4 hits (2 1b’s and 2 2b’s), Kremeier with 3 hits (2 1b’s and 2b), Youngberg with 2 hits (1b and 3b), Schlosser with a double, Danielson with a single, and Johnson with a single.
