The Brandon-Evansville softball team won a double header against Ashby on Thursday, 11-9 and 7-5. Ashby took an 8-4 lead in game one, but B-E fought back to within two runs heading to the last inning and won the game on a walk-off double by Claire Boesl. The Chargers had to come from behind again in game two as they trailed 5-4 after three innings. They scored the final 3 runs of the game to complete the sweep.
“We had a hard time finding our groove in game one and our fatigue from playing four straight double headers showed at the beginning of the game,” said B-E Head Coach Kasi Sieling. “Fortunately, though, we were able to dig deep and find it within us to battle until the very end and come out on top. Ashby hit the ball hard and found the gaps to move runners around to get a big lead. Once we were able to make some adjustments in the batter’s box and be patient we were able to get runners on and bring some runs in late in the game. I’m very proud of the way the girls fought and picked each other up in this game. Claire had a huge bases loaded double to bring in the winning runs and end this game on a high note.”
Leaders at the plate for Brandon-Evansville were Sophie Koep (2-2, 3R), Boesl (1-2, 2B, 4RBI), Taylin Kramer (1-4, 2RBI), Sydney Schaefer (1-3, R, 2RBI), Kendra Klimek (1-2, R, 2RBI) and Kiley Lund (1-4, R).
Claire Boesl (4IP, 1H, 0R, 1BB, 4K) came in to pitch with Ashby leading 5-4 and shut down the Arrows, allowing only one hit and one walk over her four innings of work. Kaytlyn Pattrin (3IP, 5H, 5R, 1ER, 2BB, 3K) started in the circle for the Chargers.
Hitting leaders were Schaefer (2-4, 3R, 2B, RBI), Kylee Dingwall (2-3, 2B, 3B, 2R, 2RBI), Koep (1-4, 2RBI), Kramer (1-3, 2B, RBI), Lund (1-3, R, RBI), Klimek (1-3, 2B, R) and Ava Santjer (1-3).
“Game two was another hard fought battle,” noted Coach Sieling. “Kaytlyn and Claire did a nice job in the circle throwing strikes and working out of innings. Offensively, we hit the ball hard and had several girls finding their way on with extra base hits. It was nice to get the early runs and secure a lead we were able to hold onto throughout the game. This was a tough week for the Chargers with four straight days of double headers and I’m extremely proud of the way the girls showed up every day and worked hard for each other. These girls have had one heck of a crazy regular season and have done an excellent job of continuing to improve every day. Shout out to our pitching and catching staff for staying strong and being the reason we were able to end the regular season with an 8-0 week. We look forward to seeing what this young team can do as we head into the post season next week.”
