The Fergus Falls Hurricanes won their season opener on Sunday, beating Dent 9-1 at Jake Wolford Field.  The Canes scored twice in the first inning, added single runs in the fourth, sixth and eighth and closed out the scoring with 4 in the ninth.  Fergus Falls pitchers held the Wildcats to just one hit on the day.

Darin Stanislawski (6IP, 16K, 5BB, 1H, 1R, 0ER) was masterful on the mound, gaining the win.  Alex Hexum and Dan Revering combined for three hitless innings of relief.

Alex Hensch drew a lead-off walk to start the game and moved to second on a base hit by Sean McGuire.  Both runners moved up on a passed ball and after a strikeout Hensch scored on another passed ball and an error scored McGuire.

Dent got their run in the third inning.  With one out Tyler Doll reached on an error.  A wild pitch moved Doll to third base and a passed ball allowed him to score.

Darin Stanislawski led off the fourth with a double and scored when a ground ball turned into a throwing error.  In the sixth, Stanislawski singled with one out and Hexum reached on a fielders’ choice.  Dan Revering singled Hexum to second base and Hexum scored when a two-out fly ball was dropped for an error.  The Canes added a run in the eighth when McGuire singled, stole second and scored on a double by Hexum.

The four-run ninth inning started with a lead-off single by Charlie Revering.  Alex Hensch singled with one out and Carter Thielke followed with a three-run homer.  McGuire then connected on a solo home run to end the scoring.

McGuire (3-5, 3R, HR, SB, RBI), Stanislawski (3-5, 2B, R) and Hexum (2-4, 2B, BB, RBI) were the hitting leaders for Fergus Falls.

The next game for the Canes will be at 1:30pm on Saturday, May 21 at Pelican Rapids.
