Perham Wins Pair of One Run Games Against Pelican Rapids

Perham pulled out a pair of one run wins over the Pelican Rapids softball team on Thursday, winning 12-11 and 5-4.  Game two only went five innings due to weather.

“Perham made the plays to pull out a one run victory in both games,” commented Pelican Rapids Head Coach Derrick Nelson

The Vikings banged out 18 hits in the 12-11 loss, led by Hazel Haugrud (3-5, 3RBI, R), Claudia Gurath (3-4, RBI, R, BB), Kia Nelson (3-4, RBI, R, BB), Sylvia Pesch (2-4, 2RBI, R), Arianna Villagomez (2-5, 2RBI, 2R), Emily Haiby (2-5, RBI, 2R) and Emily Ahmed (2-5, RBI, R).

“A lot of offense from both teams in this game,” noted Perham Head Coach Jason Groth

Perham was led by Ryleigh Mickelson (3H, 2R), Morgan Burkman (2H, 2R) and Bri Hofmann (2H, R).  Perham also walked 20 times in game one.  Steph Meissner was the winning pitcher.

Game two was a walk-off win in the bottom of the fifth for the Yellowjackets.  With two outs, Bri Hofmann singled and Hannah Beck came on as a pinch-runner.  Morgan Smith followed with a single and Hannah Hunter reached on an error, allowing Beck to score the tying run.  Marissa Hopwood followed with a RBI single, scoring Smith for the win.  Mickelson, Burkman, Meissner, Hoffman, Smith and Hannah Zachariason each had two hits for Perham.  Burkman (5IP, 4R, 4BB, 4H) was the winning pitcher.

Zayli Arrow led the Vikings at the plate in game two, going 2-for-3.  Villagomez was 1-for-1 with a walk and one run batted in, and Gurath went 1-for-3 with 2 RBI and a run scored.

Pelican Rapids will host Crookston in a double header on Saturday starting at 11:00am.
