Alexandria dropped a Central Lakes Conference game to Sauk Rapids-Rice on Tuesday, 5 - 0 as the Cardinals couldn’t get any offense going off of a solid pitcher from Sauk Rapids.   “We threatened a couple times but couldn’t get the big hit when needed,” said Head Coach Jacob Munsch. “It was a great baseball game with a 1-0 score going into the 7th.  Both teams making plays and pitchers on both sides having great nights.”

Matthew Hornstein had a fantastic night on the mound keeping the game 1 -0 going into the 7th He allowed just 3 earned runs on 9 hits.  He didn’t allow a single free base and struck out 4.  Matthew attacked the zone and allowed his defense to make plays behind him.  Jaxon Schoenrock relieved Hornstein pitching the final inning allowing 2 earned runs on 1 hit.  Schoenrock struck out 1 and walked 2.

Defensively, the Cards played very solid supporting their pitcher and getting out of jams throughout the game.

Alexandria collected 3 hits on the night with Lake Hagen recording a double and Brock Lerfald and Reed Reisdorf each adding singles.

The Cardinals continue play this week with a road double header at Willmar on Thursday.

“The weather could not have turned out better for our annual youth baseball night and people came out in waves to observe some baseball and celebrate all of the future and current baseball players that Alexandria has to offer,” noted Coach Munsch.  “Over 325 free meals were provided to youth who attended the game.  Tremendous thank you to the AYBA for providing the meals and to all of the youth coaches and volunteers taking the time to have positive impacts on kids in our community.  Without your support athletics across the board would not be where they are when it comes to sustainability and numbers of athletes to support our programs.  Thank you!”

Munsch continued, “Along with youth baseball night, we completed our annual raffle event.  Over $6,000 dollars in prizes were handed out and lots of smiles as many people walked away winners.   The community of Alexandria and small businesses continue to impress by supporting student athletes with donations to help keep their programs running strong.   Big thank you to you!   Just under 2,000 raffle tickets were sold.”
