Monday, the Hillcrest Track and Field team traveled to Ortonville and both the boys’ and girls’ teams finished sixth out of seven teams in the Wheaton/Herman-Norcross Invitational. The meet was moved to Ortonville due to the track conditions in Wheaton.
West Central Area won the girls’ competition with 162 points and Wheaton/Herman-Norcross was second with 155. Hancock came in third with 89 points, followed by Ortonville with 68, Rothsay with 18, Hillcrest with 16 and Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley with 6.
Katie Holzner had a great day for the Comets, winning the 3200 (12.49) and taking third in the 1600 (5:59.94).
The boys’ event was won by Ortonville with 131 points. Wheaton/Herman-Norcross was second with 95, followed by West Central Area 80, Hancock 74, Rothsay 66, Hillcrest 50 and C-G-B 34.
The Comets won the 4x800 Relay (10:02.71) with a team of Gabe Swedenburg, Leo Nordick, Matthew Knutson and Kian Stender. Gavin Knutson was runner-up in the shot put (38-07). Third place finishers were Matthew Knutson in the 1600 (5:11.38), Swedenburg in the 400 (56.11), Caden Fischer in the 200 (24.44) and the 4x400 relay team (4:00.18) of Swedenburg, Juin Moon, Nordick and Drew Fischer. Nordick was fourth in the 400 (57.04), Caden Fischer claimed fifth in the 100 (11.81) and Matthew Knutson placed fifth in the 800 (2:25.84).
