The Hillcrest baseball team dropped a pair of games to Ortonville on Friday, 10-0 and 11-6.  “I was pleased with our effort and we have made some improvements from the beginning of the year,” stated Head Coach Dave Weinrich of the Comets.  “We had good pitching efforts from both Nate Bermel (4 innings) and Ethan Swedberg (2 innings), and Evan Lindgren and Daniel Reisch also pitched better.”

Caden Fischer had 2 hits to lead the Hillcrest attack.  Lindgren, Jack Vicksness, Nate Bermel, Micah Bermel and Zayne Weinrich had one hit apiece.

“Our hitting was better and we are starting to have better at bats,” added Weinrich.  “It hasn’t translated to a lot of runs yet, but we can see a lot of improvement in that department.  We had some good defense with Zayne playing a great game in center field and making a lot of plays, and Micah with a solid performance behind the plate.  We just need to limit our mistakes on defense and our biggest issue is throwing strikes.  I think if we get that figured out we will win some games.”

The Comets play Ottertail Central in Battle Lake on Thursday and a double header against Hancock at home on Friday.
