The Ashby baseball team recorded a double header sweep of the Hancock Owls on Thursday, winning 10-0 and 12-1.

Hunter Norby (5IP, 0R, 1H, 9K, 0BB) was brilliant on the mound for the Arrows in their five-inning win in game one. Norby gave the Arrows a 1-0 lead with a RBI single in the first inning.  Ashby notched five runs in the fourth inning as Carson Spangler, Evan Paulson and Brodie Ecker all delivered run-scoring hits.  The Arrows had 11 hits in the game with Paulson (3-3), Torin Olson and Spangler collection multiple hits. Ashby did not commit an error in the field.

Dain Schroeder had the lone hit for the Owls.

Ashby broke open a 3-1 game with nine runs in the top of the seventh inning of game two.  Ashby had 14 hits in the contest compared to just 4 for Hancock.

Hudson Ver Steeg (5.1IP, 3R, 9H, 6K) kept the Owls close with his excellent performance on the mound.  Dain Schroeder led the Owls at the plate with a pair of hits, including a solo homer.  Once again Ashby did not commit an error.

Carter Spangler was the winning pitcher, going six innings, allowing one run on three hits, striking out 14 and walking zero.  The Arrows racked up 14 hits on the day, led by Torin Olson, Brodie Ecker, Hunter Norby, Bradee Christianson, Carson Spangler and Evan Paulson with two hits apiece.

“Great outings on the mound today for Carter and Hunter,” said Ashby Head Coach Jared Larson.  “They were really on and it was fun to watch.”
