A strong finish to the 2021 season leaves room for a lot of optimism heading into the 2022 softball season for the Barnesville lady Trojans.  They finished the season 10-13, however, Barnesville ended the regular season on a four game winning streak and made it to the second round of the playoffs for the first time in 5 years.

“This group is very excited for this season,” said fifth-year Head Coach Aaron Schindler.  “We return a lot of experience with 8 out of 9 starters coming back.  They have high expectations for themselves and know that in order to get to where they want to go, they need to show up every day and be consistent.  This group is very close as they have played together for many hears and just have a special bond.  We will have a lot of speed and athleticism and will look to take advantage of that.  Defensively, we want to play mistake free and not beat ourselves.”

Returning starters are Trinity Gregg (P/OF, .612 BA, 27 SB, 10-9 record), Anna Stanford (CF, .389 BA, 24 RBI, 23 SB), Lexi Bolgrean (SS, .440 BA, 21 SB), Kiana Amundson (C/IF, 10 RBI), Lauren Halverson (1B/OF, 4 2B, 9 RBI), Katie Newell (LF, .300 BA, 4 2B), Kailey Olson (RF/P/C, 12 1B) and Jaida Bontjes (3B/C, .344 BA, 14 RBI).

Players looking for varsity spots include Lily Trowbridge (1B), Amelia Newell (2B), Paige Braton (2B/P), Alexa Gregg (3B/OF), Macie Pauna (SS/2B/3B), Keelin Fitzpatrick (OF) and Kimberly Olson (1B).

“Our expectations are to show up every day and be consistent with our attitude, effort, and communication,” noted Coach Schindler.  “If we can be consistent we will put ourselves in a great situation to be successful.  Our goal is always to be playing our best softball by the end of the season.  We hope to be competitive in both our conference and section.”

DGF and Hawley are Schindler’s picks as the top teams in the HOL, while DGF, Hawley and Thief River Falls are his teams to beat in Section 8AA.

Nycole Mouritsen (JV Coach), Nikki Gregg (Volunteer Coach), Ace Gregg (Volunteer Coach) and Nicole Herbranson (Volunteer Coach) will all work with Coach Schindler.
