Noted Fergus Falls basketball historian Dean Nielsen has come up with some facts and figures regarding where the 2021-22 Otter girls’ basketball team ranks in several statistical areas.  The Otters completed a 26-6 season with a runner-up finish in the Class AA State Tournament on Saturday when they lost to Providence Academy 55-53 in the championship game at Williams Arena.

Here are Nielsen’s findings:
The second place finish is the highest finish ever for an Otter girls’ basketball team.  Their previous best finish was 3rd place, in both the 2011-12 and 2013-14 seasons.

The 2,152 points scored this season eclipsed the previous record of 2,121 which was established in the 2013-14 season.

Their 67.25 points per game is the second highest scoring average in team history, behind only the 2012-13 team (68.20ppg).

The 16.63 points per game margin of victory is the seventh best in team history.

The 16 made 3-point baskets against Warroad is a single game record.

The 26 wins sits behind only the 2011-12 (30-2), 2012-13 (29-1) and 2013-14 (30-2) teams.

The team field goal percentage was in the mid 40% range, one of the best ever, with the team free throw percentage likely a record around 73 to 74%.
