Otter Girls Win State Quarterfinal Contest

Fergus Falls shot 54% (28-52) from the floor and hit 47.4% (9-19) of their 3-point field goals on Wednesday night at Maturi Pavilion as the Otters opened the Class AA State Girls Basketball Tournament with a 71-55 quarterfinal round victory over the Pequot Lakes Patriots.

The Otters fell behind 7-0 and then went on an 11-0 run to take an 11-7 lead.  The game was tied at 12-12 but the Otters scored 11 of the next 13 points to increase their lead to 23-14.  Fergus Falls led by 7 at the half and upped their lead to 23 late in the second half.

Seniors Ellie Colbeck (25 points, 11-of-17 FG, 5 rebounds, 8 assists, 6 steals) and Tori Ratz (22 points, 5-11 3’s, 5 assists) led the way for the number two seeds.  Ainsley Hansen had a team high 10 rebounds and scored 7 points.  Cyntreya Lockett grabbed 7 rebounds and added 5 points off the bench.  The Otters won the rebounding battle, 31-21.

Isabel Larson, Kelsi Martini and Maci Martini scored 14 points each to lead Pequot Lakes.  Ella Kratochvil had a team high 7 rebounds.

The loss snapped a 24 game winning streak for the Patriots, who are now 29-1.

Fergus Falls improved to 25-5 and will now face third-seeded Minnehaha Academy at 8:00pm Friday at Williams Arena in a semifinal round contest.
