The Perham Yellowjackets took a 6-0 lead to start their Section 8AA semifinal contest with Pelican Rapids on Tuesday night in Detroit Lakes and led 22-12 at the half.  The Yellowjackets controlled the tempo of the game throughout the night and led by as many as 19 (33-14) in the second half before finishing with a 43-37 victory over the Vikings.

Soren Anderson (20 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists) and Micah Thompson (10 points, 13 rebounds, 4 assists) led Perham statistically.  Chas Melvin added 10 points.

Timmy Guler scored 11 of the 12 first half points for Pelican Rapids and had a team high 17 points on the night.  Ian Fahje recorded a double-double (13 points, 12 rebounds) and Hunter Williams gathered 6 rebounds.

“We obviously struggled on the offensive end tonight getting into a rhythm and making shots,” stated Pelican Rapids Head Coach John Gullingsrud. “We battled defensively all game to give ourselves a chance, but it just wasn’t meant to be. We are so proud of our boys though for the effort they played with tonight as they didn’t give in until the final buzzer sounded. They were such a fun group to work with this year as everyday they showed up to games and practices with awesome attitudes and a great work ethic.”

Perham (17-10) will now face Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton for the 8AA championship at 7:00pm Friday in Detroit Lakes.  DGF beat Thief River Falls 76-65 in the other semifinal round game on Tuesday night.

Pelican Rapids ends their season with a record of 22-6.
