The Fergus Falls Otters shot 63% (14-22) in the first half, including 8-of-12 on 3’s, as they built a 36-29 halftime lead over the Vikings in Pelican Rapids.  They cooled off in the second half, making just 37% (9-24) of their shots, while the Vikings shot 54% (12-22), making 5-of-7 3’s and 14-of-17 free throws as they rallied to win the game, 72-62.

“Heck of a playoff game tonight at our place with a fantastic atmosphere for a high school basketball game,” said Pelican Rapids Head Coach John Gullingsrud. “Fergus Falls shot the lights out in the first half and had us in a ten point hole early in the second half. Our guys didn’t quit though and continued to battle as they’ve done all year to come away with a win that took a lot of toughness and grit.”

Trailing 43-33 seven minutes into the second half, Pelican Rapids scored 12 straight points and went on a 19-2 run to take a 52-45 lead.  The Otters pulled to within one at 58-57 but never regained the lead.  The two teams were even on the boards with 23 rebounds apiece.

Timmy Guler ignited the second half rally by scoring 26 of his game high 31 points and making all 12 of his second half free throws.  He finished the game 13-of-16 on the line and made 8-of-18 field goal attempts.  Guler also had 3 assists and 4 rebounds.  Brayden Ecker had 21 points, 3 assists and 5 rebounds.  Ian Fahje scored all 14 of his points in the first half. Tanner Tollerud led the Vikings with 6 rebounds and also had 3 assists.

Fergus Falls shot 52% (24-46) from the field, making 12-of-22 (54%) 3-pointers.  They were led by Henry Bethel (21 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists), Elliot Pribbenow (11 points, 2 assists), Kaden Conklin (10 points, 4 rebounds) and Luke Newman (8 points, 8 rebounds).

Fergus Falls ends their season with a record of 10-18.

Pelican Rapids (22-5) has a date to face the Perham Yellowjackets at 7:45pm Tuesday at Detroit Lakes.
