Henning led 31-21 at the half.  The Hornets capitalized on several opportunities at the free throw line, making 29-of-33 on the day.  Hillcrest lost Sam Brumfield, Noah Brumfield and Yuchan Ha to fouls late in the game.  Tanner Arndt made 11-of-12 from the charity stripe, including his last 9 and finished with a game high 25 points. 

The Hornets also received double digit scoring from Mason Hammer with 16, Kale Misegades with 14 and Tyson Misegades with a dozen. 

Hammer completed a double-double by snagging 10 rebounds and also dished out a team high 7 assists.  Arndt contributed 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals.  Henning shot 43% (21-48) form the field.

“Tremendous win for our guys this afternoon,” commented Henning Head Coach Randy Misegades. “Every single guy, both on the floor and on the bench, was engaged in the game. We were so pleased with how our team brought the fight. Hillcrest presented some challenges for us defensively with their size and ability to shoot the ball.  On the offensive end, we didn’t shoot a great percentage, but we took excellent care of the ball, and made 29-33 free throws against an aggressive and physical Comet team.” 

“We have a huge challenge Tuesday night against a supremely talented New York Mills team, but, we’re excited to have an opportunity,” added Coach Misegades. 

Justin Petersen led the Comets with 24 points and Sam Brumfield scored 22 on 3 3's and 7-of-8 free throw shooting.  Brumfield became the single season scoring leader for the Comets, finishing with 713 points, passing Daniel Nersten's previous record of 696.

"We lost to a very solid Henning team," acknowledged Hillcrest Head Coach Ryan Garvin.  "Randy just does things the right way. They play offense and defense together in such a beautiful way.  Unfortunately, we really struggled early on the offensive end to get anything going - not enough ball reversals - didn't force Henning to play long enough in their defensive possessions to make any mistakes - and settled for one-on-one shot attempts. Henning is just too good for us to be able to play like that especially early in the game. We also went 1-12 from 3 in the first half and dug ourselves a hole that we weren't able to climb out of with enough defensive stops."

Hillcrest finishes their season with a record of 21-7.

"I'm going to miss this team," added Coach Garvin. "They mean so much to me, to this coaching staff. 2 years with David and Christian, three years with Sam, four with Yuch and seven great years with Caden Fischer. Monday is going to be hard and bizarre! But I'm very proud of these boys and know that their hard work, great attitudes and love for the Lord will translate into live-changing impacts in their future communities and families."

Henning (23-5) will face New York Mills (27-1) for a third time this season when the two teams clash for the North Sub-Section 6A title on Tuesday night at seven o'clock in Perham.
