The Fergus Falls girls’ basketball team received the number 2 seed in the Class AA State Tournament and will open play at 6:00pm Wednesday, March 16 at Maturi Pavillion on the campus of the University of Minnesota. Their opening round opponent will be Section 7AA champion, Pequot Lakes (27-1). The Section 8AA champion Otters take a 24-5 record into the tournament.
The other game in the Otters bracket will feature number 3 seed Minnehaha Academy (22-4) out of Section 4AA, going up against Lake Crystal/Wellcome Memorial (24-4), the Section 2AA champions, in the 8:00pm game at Maturi Pavillion.
The top-seeded team is Providence Academy (24-3) out of Section 6AA. They will face Section 3AA winner, Montevideo (24-3) in the six o’clock game Wednesday at Williams Arena.
The 8:00pm game at Williams Arena on Wednesday is between fourth-seeded Albany (21-5), the defending state champs and winners of the Section 6AA title, and Section 1AA winner, Rochester Lourdes (20-7), the number five seed.
A first round win by the Otters will put them in a semifinal matchup against either Minnehaha Academy or Lake Crystal/Wellcome Memorial on Friday at 8:00pm at Williams Arena. Should the Otters lose their first round game, they would face the loser of that matchup at 8:00pm Thursday at the Gangelhoff Center at Concordia University in St. Paul.
