Battlers Top Cowboys in Breckenridge, Advance in Section 6A

Battle Lake held off a furious second half comeback by Breckenridge on Thursday night to post a 60-55 win in the Section 6A boys’ basketball playoffs.  The Battlers led 27-21 at the half, scored the first 7 points of the second half to increase their lead to 34-21, led by as many as 15 points and then held off the Cowboys for the win.  Breckenridge rallied to tie the game at 41, 44 and 46, however, never took the lead in the second half.

Drew Johnson had a team high 19 points and Jack Mekalson added 16 to lead Battle Lake.  Owen Buehler chipped in with 9 and Mason Dalluge had 7 points, 7 rebounds and 3 blocked shots.

Battle Lake played a stifling defense in the first half and Breckenridge climbed back into the game with intense defensive ball pressure in the second half.

The Cowboys were led by 22 points from Collin Roberts.  Jack Johnson scored 9 of his 11 in the second half and Alex Sanchez scored all 9 of his points in the final 18 minutes of play.

Number five seed Battle Lake has a date with top-seeded New York Mills on Saturday at 1:00pm at ‘The Hive’ in Perham.
