Brady Gratton poured in 30 points to lead the Hawley Nuggets to a 72-56 victory over Wadena-Deer Creek in their opening Section 6A playoff game on Thursday night.  Hayden Grani added 16 points, Brevin Stoa contributed 12 and Sam Senske chipped in with 10.

“That was a very solid Wadena squad we saw tonight,” commented Hawley Head Coach Nathan Stoa. “They have some guys who can shoot the lights out. We didn’t guard the 3 point line very well, but were able to make enough plays to get deflections and make them uncomfortable at other points to open up a nice lead. Get ready to hear a lot from Wadena over the next couple years.”

Teshe Loer led the Wolverines with 17 points.  Josiah Kallevig and Peyton Church added 13 and 12 points, respectively.

“Seniors win in the playoffs,” noted Coach Stoa of the Nuggets. “Ours showed up tonight and made us proud with their last performance in this gym. This group took a lot of lumps over the last couple years, but stayed the course through the ups and downs, and have shown so much growth. We are very grateful for them, and are incredibly proud of them.”

Hawley advances to face third-seeded Perham on Saturday at 7:00pm at ‘The Hive’ in Perham.
