The #3 seeded WCA Knights defeated the #6 seed Eden Valley-Watkins Eagles 65-60 in the opening round of the Section 3AA playoffs.  The Knights will face New London-Spicer at Willmar High School on Thursday, March 10th at 7:30 pm.  Morris Area will face Litchfield at 6:00 in the other sub-section semi-final.

The Knights held the Eagles to 2-20 from 3-point land, they took very good care of the ball only committing 10 turnovers against a tough, physical defense, and they knocked down 19-25 free throws for 76%.  The Knights also converted well from the field making 21-43 for 49%.

Eden Valley-Watkins made 26-59 from the field for 44% and made 6-14 free throws.  The Eagles turned the ball over 12 times.  They stayed in the game due to their dominant rebounding effort pulling down 40 rebounds to the Knights 24 including 17 offensive rebounds.

Knights Coach Kraig Hunter said, "In AA basketball, it is physical and there aren't many poor teams.  Our #2 through #6 seeds were all real close in the QRF and this was probably the toughest matchup for us because of their size.  Our boys came out shooting with confidence building a 25-15 lead.  They cut it to seven at halftime 32-25 from some offensive putbacks.  We played really good defense taking away their strengths but we couldn't finish off the possessions. It was the same story in the second half as we built a 50-39 lead but their offensive rebounding brought them back again.  We were up nine in the last minute and they got a 4-point possession with a basket, foul and another offensive rebound to cut it to five."

"They are a big physical team that plays physical defense, so I thought our poise and composure were good throughout the game in taking care of the ball with only 10 turnovers.  Once again our perimeter defense was sharp. Alex Haeg has made 87 three-pointers this year and leads them in scoring at 15 ppg and we were able to limit him to 3 points. That was a big key as well."

Leaders for the Knights were Cole Anderson with 18 points and 5 rebounds, Cam Anderson had 17 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists; Ryder Staples was also in double figures with 12 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals.  Nas Dotts added 9 points, Jake Strunk 6, and Bryce Kjesbo 3.

Strunk led the rebounding effort with 7 rebounds and Strunk and Dotts joined Staples with 3 steals each.  Mitch Dewey contributed 1 steal.

The Eagles were led by their 6'8" sophomore Noah Stommes with 17 points, Landon Neiman scored 15, Parker Schultz 13, Noah Geislinger 6, Myles Dziengel 4, Alex Haeg 3 and Wyatt Moehrle 2.

The Knights move to 21-4 on the season while the Eagles finish their season at 15-11.
