The Pelican Rapids Vikings and Barnesville Trojans engaged in a classic Heart O’ Lakes Conference boys’ basketball game on Friday night with the Vikings pulling out a 67-58 victory in double overtime.

“It was a heck of a game tonight with a great atmosphere that was just fun to be a part of,” commented Pelican Rapids Head coach John Gullingsrud. “We were able to build leads in both halves, but Barnesville closed the gap each time and got it to overtime when we missed some free throws down the stretch. We were down five in the first overtime, but Ian Fahje made two free throws with under a minute left and Timmy Guler hit a three with twenty seconds left to get us to a second overtime. We were able to take control in the second overtime and did a better job of executing in the last two minutes to come away with a win in a game where both teams played with a high amount of effort and intensity.”

Guler led the Vikings with 23 points.  Brayden Ecker and Fahje each scored 13 points.

Kaden Zenzen and Tate Inniger were the leaders for the Trojans with 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Pelican Rapids (19-5) will close out their regular season schedule against DGF on Saturday afternoon in Glyndon.

Barnesville ends their regular season with a record of 14 wins and 10 losses.
