Hillcrest Lutheran Academy earned a tie for the Little Eight Conference boys’ basketball championship with Ashby when they defeated the Underwood Rockets by the score of 62-31.  The Comets led 40-16 at halftime.

“Definitely an interesting night offensively for us,” reported Hillcrest Head Coach Ryan Garvin.  “We struggled to score in the early minutes of the game, but settled in and got most of our baskets at the rim.  After shooting the ball well from outside for the last couple of games, we really struggled, going 0-for-10 from 3-point range in the first half.”

Noah Brumfield led Hillcrest with 15 points and Justin Peterson added 14 points and a team high 9 rebounds.  Luke Christensen finished with 13 points for the Comets.

“Also an interesting evening when Sam Brumfield doesn’t score in the first half and we were still able to generate 40 points of offense,” noted Coach Garvin.  “I’m proud of how our guys played with such intensity and focus tonight.  A great night for Justin Petersen in limited action.  We had a great team effort on the boards as a whole tonight.  I love what Coach Kellen Shebeck is doing with that young squad in Underwood.  They play hard and play the right way.  They are going to be a tough group to contend with in the coming years.”

Cole Peterson led Underwood with 10 points, 6 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 blocked shots, and Drew Evavold finished with 9 points and 3 boards.

“These kids just don’t quit, but of late we have been struggling to take care of the basketball, with 26 turnovers tonight,” said Underwood Head Coach Kellen Shebeck. “Our lone senior, Reed Solberg really had a great last home game of his career, scoring 2 points and pulling down 4 rebounds. We will need to fight harder on rebounding and take care of the basketball on Monday.”
