Top-seeded Jackson County Central moved into the championship match of the Class A State Wrestling Tournament with a 41-27 victory over West Central Area/Ashby/Brandon-Evansville on Thursday afternoon at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. The loss puts the Knights into the third place match against Dover-Eyota at 5:00pm.
Owen Gruchow (106) once again gave the Knights a quick start with a pin in 45 seconds over Isaac Rodriguez of JCC. A pair of pins by Jackson County Central put them in front 12-6, however, Mason Richter (126) responded with a fall at 1:45 of his match against Landon Andrews to tie the match at 12-12. A pair of decisions at 132 and 138 allowed Jackson County Central to regain the advantage, 18-12, but WCA/A/BE answered with a 4-2 decision from Reubens Swanson (145) and a 16-14 decision by Ashton Danner (152) to pull even in the match, 18-18. A technical fall at 160 made it 23-18, JCC, but the Knights cut the lead to 23-21 when Anthony Sykora (170) won a 6-1 decision.
It was at that point of the match that the number one ranked team recorded back-to-back pins at 182 and 195 to secure the match with a 35-21 lead with two matches remaining. Colton Lindquist (220) got six points with a pin over Trace Michelson to bring the Knights to within eight points at 35-27. The final match of the dual went to Jackson County Central with a pin at 285, putting the final score at 41-27.
