Three Ashby Arrows scored in double figures on Thursday night as they handed the Battle Lake boys’ basketball team a 69-50 loss on Thursday night. Jacob Cook led the way with 26 points to go along with 11 rebounds.

Torin Olson netted 22 points including making 4 of 8 three-point attempts.  Hunter Norby added a dozen points and hustled after 6 offensive rebounds. Brodie Ecker recorded an assist on 5 of his teammate's baskets.  Carson Spangler contributed 5 points and led by example on defense.  The Arrows recorded 31 total rebounds.  They shot 48% (27/56) from the field.

“Battle Lake shot the basketball very well in the first half,” commented Ashby Head Coach John Holsten.  “We were fortunate they cooled off in the second half and we hit some shots of our own.  Carson Spangler provided leadership on defense by competing with maximum effort.”

Ashby led at halftime, 37-32.

“The first time we played Ashby, we didn’t attack their defense,” said Battle Lake Head Coach Randy Dorn.  “Tonight, we matched our final score from the first meeting with 32 points in the first half.  Cook and Olson ended up being too much in the second half.”

The Battlers were led by 26 points from Jack Mekalson.  Senior Noah Mansker finished with 10 and Owen Buehler chipped in with 8.

“I was proud of the kids’ effort on senior night,” added Dorn.  “Seniors Noah Mansker, Sam Jossart, Dallas Bush, Dawson Bush and Caleb Griffin do a great job of representing the Battle Lake basketball program and community.  We also recognize our senior managers, Blake Alonzo and Isaac Sherfenberg and thank them for all they do!”

Battle Lake (9-12) will travel to Hillcrest on Friday to take on the Comets.

Ashby (18-2) will travel to Brandon-Evansville for a Little Eight Conference game on Friday night.
