Fergus Falls had a 28-22 advantage in shots on goal on Saturday, however, River Lakes posted a 3-1 victory at the Runestone Community Center in Alexandria to claim the Section 6 championship and a berth in the Class A State Girls’ Hockey Tournament.

“River Lakes capitalized on our mistakes and we didn’t capitalize on their mistakes,” said Fergus Falls Head Coach Tim Lill.  “I couldn’t be more proud of this group of hard working, fantastic ladies.  The program will miss these seniors for more than the fact that they are good hockey players.”

River Lakes took a 1-0 lead at 6:24 of the opening period on an unassisted goal from Sophia Hess.

Following a scoreless second period River Lakes increased their lead to 2-0.  Kianna Roeske scored from Jordyn Bebus at 1:25 in the third period.  A short-handed goal by Hess gave the Stars a 3-0 lead at 9:56.

The Otters only goal of the night game from Piper Andrews, unassisted, on the power play, at 10:04.

Ana Jyrkas stopped 19 shots on goal for Fergus Falls.

River Lakes goalie Kaydence Roeske was outstanding in net with 27 saves.
