Strong Fourth Quarter Carries Lady Spartans Past St. Cloud

The M State lady Spartans overcame a 45-43 deficit after three quarters by outscoring St. Cloud 28-16 in the fourth quarter on Wednesday night to take a 71-61 road victory over the Cyclones.

M State made 21-of-24 free throws in the game, led by 9-of-10 from Emily Dehler who finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds.  Jayna Gronewold was also in double figures with 17 points, while adding 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 4 steals.  Mackenzie Foss scored 9 points, Abby Tysdal had 8, Brooke Hovland added 7 and Lindsey Kurz had 6.  Lydia Baker had another solid all-around game with 5 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists and a steal.

M State won the rebounding battle 38-34 and the lady Spartans shot 36.5% (23-63) form the field.  St. Cloud shot 39.3% (24-61).

Erin Knisley led the Cyclones with a double-double (21 points, 16 rebounds).  Allison Fritz added 12 points and Demya Riley had 9 points and 3 assists.

M State will close out their regular season schedule with a game against Ridgewater at one o’clock Saturday in Willmar.
