The Henning Hornets fell behind early but a 17-0 run brought them from a 12-6 deficit to a 23-12 lead as they build a 30-18 halftime lead on the way to a 71-56 victory over the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines.

“After a bit of a sluggish start, we made a nice run before the half,” said Henning Head Coach Randy Misegades. “WDC should get a lot of credit; they wouldn’t go away. Even though we were a little short-handed playing without Calvin Stueve, our guys stuck with it and found a way.”

Mason Hammer had a big night for the Hornets, scoring 24 points on 11-of-17 shooting and grabbing 11 rebounds to complete his double-double.  Lane Dilly provided a spark off the bench, scoring 9 points and securing a team high 12 rebounds.  Tanner Arndt made 5-of-7 field goal attempts, scoring 18 points, while adding 5 assists and 6 rebounds.  Tyson Misegades was also in double digits with 12 points.  He also led the team with 6 assists and 5 steals.

Henning shot 50% (29-58) from the floor and made 9-of-12 free throws.  Henning had just one turnover at halftime but finished with ten for the game.  The Hornets only committed six fouls.

Wadena-Deer Creek was led by 14 points from Teshe LoerPayton Rondestvedt and Peyton Church each scored 11.

Henning (16-1, 9-1 PRC) has a rematch with New York Mills, the only team that has beaten them, on Tuesday night on the Eagle home court.

Wadena-Deer Creek (5-11) is at Pillager on Tuesday.
