The Pelican Rapids boys’ basketball team fell behind 26-14 at halftime but rallied for a 53-46 victory over Wadena-Deer Creek on Monday night on the Vikings home floor.

“We dug ourselves a pretty big hole in the first half as we struggled offensively to get ball movement and make some outside shots,” said Pelican Rapids Head Coach John Gullingsrud. “We were able to attack the paint better in the second half and our defense created some turnovers to get us going in transition which helped get us in a better offensive flow too. We were proud of the effort and resolve our guys kept playing with in the second half.”

Timmy Guler and Tanner Tollerud scored 16 and 11 points, respectively, to lead the Vikings.

Wadena-Deer Creek was led by Peyton Church with 22 and Payton Rondestvedt with 14.

Pelican Rapids (12-4, 6-1 HOL) will travel to Thief River Falls for a non-conference game on Friday.

Wadena-Deer Creek (5-10) will play at Henning on Friday night.
