The Wheaton/Herman-Norcross boys’ basketball team overcame a 19-18 halftime deficit on the way to a 45-38 win over the Hancock Owls on Friday night. Dylan Bainbridge and Clint Determan each had 17 points to lead the Warriors. Determan also had a team high 8 rebounds.
"This was a great defensive battle by two conference opponents," reported Head Coach Jordon Roos of the Warriors. "Our boys worked really hard all night and deserved to get a big win like this. The atmosphere in the gym was awesome and we hope a fun win like this will really propel us moving forward."
The Owls struggled with their shooting, hitting only 15-of-54 (28%) of their shots from the floor. They did hold a 35-21 edge on the boards, led by 11 from Matt Thompson who also had a team high 20 points. Zachary Koehl and Luke Joos distributed 3 assists apiece.
The Warriors (7-4) will play at Breckenridge on Tuesday and will host Ortonville on Friday.
Hancock (9-3) saw their six game winning streak come to an end. They will host New York Mills on Saturday afternoon and Rothsay on Monday, before traveling to Battle Lake for a non-conference contest on Tuesday night.
