The Alexandria Cardinals hosted St. Cloud Cathedral Crusaders Tuesday night at the Runestone Community Center and posted a 3-1 win in the boys' hockey contest. With the new section formation, the game had a little different feeling not being a section game but the rivalry between the two clubs was present.

Sophomore defenseman Jack Lamski got the Cardinals on the board in the first period after firing a puck towards the net from the offensive corner that beat the Crusaders goaltender. Less than three minutes later junior forward Nick Peterson added to the Cardinals lead after banging in a loose puck just in front of the net. Junior Tyler Kludt fired the puck on net and received the assist on the goal. This was the Cardinals only power play goal of the game out of four power play opportunities. Shots after the first period were Cardinals – 18, Crusaders – 7.

The Cardinals would get many chances in the 2nd period but couldn’t find the back of the net. With under three minutes remaining in the second period, the Crusaders were able to get their own power play goal to cut the lead in half.

Each club would get an opportunity on the power play in the third period but were unable to capitalize. Senior Mason Stennes sealed the deal for the Cardinals after tipping a point shot from Jack Lamski. Junior defenseman Henry Ramstorf got the play started when he passed the puck over to Lamski for the shot. Despite outshooting the Crusader’s 43 – 19 in the contest, the Cardinals were only able to put three goals on the board. Senior Teagan Pfeffer stopped 18 of 19 shots on the night to earn the win.

This was a big game bounce back game for the Cardinals who suffered a disappointing 7-1 defeat Saturday against Totino-Grace. The Cardinals look to keep their momentum going as Sartell comes to town on Friday night. JV starts at 5:30 and Varsity starts at 7:15.
