Hillcrest Lutheran Academy hosted Underwood in a Little Eight Conference boys’ basketball contest on Tuesday in Fergus Falls.  The Comets had a 25-20 halftime lead and went on to record a 65-48 victory over the Rockets.

“Got a nice win over a hard working Underwood team,” said Hillcrest Head Coach Ryan Garvin.  “They played with good energy and we had a difficult time matching that energy early.  With no JV game tonight and playing our first game of a 6-games-in-10-day-stretch, it was nice to get some other guys some playing time tonight.  It was also a good opportunity to recognize some areas of development in which we either need reps or to get film on ourselves to analyze.”

Sam Brumfield paced the Comets with 26 points and Zayne Weinrich came off the bench to hit five 3’s, giving the Comets a needed boost in the second half.

“We played one of our more well-rounded games tonight on the defensive end, and did an excellent job of boxing out and trying to limit HLA to one shot per possession,” stated Underwood Head Coach Kellen Shebeck.  “Hillcrest hit some huge 3’s in the second half which made it tough for us to battle back into it.  They are a very well-rounded team and coached very well.”

The Rockets were led by Cole Peterson (15 points, 12 rebounds), Evan Lundgren (12 points) and Drew Evavold (11 points).

The Rockets have lost eight straight and will host Sebeka on Thursday before traveling to Barrett on Saturday to play West Central Area.

The win was the sixth in a row for the Comets, who are now 8-2 on the season and 3-1 in conference games.  They will travel to Battle Lake on Thursday and host Rothsay on Friday in a pair of LEC matchups.
