Despite being down two players with the absence of Noah Brumfield and David Stephen-Wangboje, the Hillcrest boys’ basketball team built on their 33-32 halftime lead and went on to post a 70-56 road win at Park Christian School in Moorhead on Saturday.

“We struggled to put together many stops and our offensive movement was mediocre at best in the first half,” noted Hillcrest Head Coach Ryan Garvin.  “We gave ourselves some great second chance opportunities in that first half which kept us in it.  Caden Fischer had 9 of his season high 16 in the first half.  Yuchan Ha also had 6 of his 9 boards in the first half.  I though he did a great job pursuing the ball for us tonight.”

Sam Brumfield led all scorers with 30 points, while adding 7 rebounds and 4 assists.  Fischer added 4 rebounds and 3 assists to his 16 points.  Justin Petersen and Ha finished with 10 and 8 points, respectively.

“We were a lot more patient and got some much better looks at the rim in the second half,” reported Coach Garvin.  “Even though we hit 6 threes in the first half, I’m thankful the boys decided not to live or die by that tonight.  We definitely looked tired tonight, but I was so proud of how the finished, hitting 10-of-13 from the free throw line.”

Hillcrest improved to 7-2 with their fifth consecutive win.  They will host Underwood on Tuesday night in the first of three straight Little Eight Conference matchups.  They follow that with a road game at Battle Lake on Thursday and a home contest Friday with Rothsay.
