The Otter boys’ basketball team matched up with Perham in the final game of the day on Saturday as the Yellowjackets hosted several girls’ and boys’ contests throughout the day at The Hive.  The day ended with an overtime battle which saw Fergus Falls survive with a 56-50 victory.  Perham led 21-17 but the Otters outscored them 26-22 in the second half to force overtime with a 43-43 tie at the end of regulation.  Fergus Falls scored 13 overtime points to 7 for the Yellowjackets.

“That was a really fun night of basketball, and fun to pull out a hard fought OT thriller,” said Fergus Falls Head Coach Matt Johnson.  “We were really happy with our defensive effort tonight.  Our guys did a nice job of executing a game plan and showed some toughness against a really good basketball team.  Offensively, we looked like we were playing for each other, not just with each other.  Hopefully, this is a game we can build off of moving forward.”

Leaders for the Otters were Luke Newman (20 points, 8 rebounds), Henry Bethel (16 points, 6 rebounds) and Kaden Conklin (9 points, 4 rebounds).  Fergus Falls shot 41% (18-44) from the floor.

Perham made only 37% (17-46) of their field goal attempts.  Micah Thompson (20 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals) and Marcus Belka (11 points) were the leading scorers for the home team.  Alex Ohm added 3 assists.

Fergus Falls (6-5) will host St. Cloud Tech in a Central Lakes Conference match on Tuesday night.

Perham (7-3) will be at home for a pair of Heart O’ Lakes Conference games this week with Breckenridge coming in on Tuesday and Hawley on Friday.
