The Hillcrest girls’ basketball team held Park Christian to 38 points on Saturday in a 50-38 victory over the Falcons in a non-conference contest.

“Our defense is what really got us going in this game,” commented Hillcrest Head Coach Hannah Clark. “Whenever we became stagnant on offense, our defense was there to pick up the slack.”

Madi Ballweg (15 points, 5 rebounds), Ella Knutson (11 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists), Regan Wiertzema (11 points, 7 rebounds), Ruby Peterson (9 points, 5 rebounds, 4 steals, 4 assists) and Madi Foss (4 points, 4 rebounds, 4 steals, 6 assists) produced a balanced attack throughout the game.

“We struggled against their 2/3 zone in the first half, but we made some adjustments in the locker room and the girls really looked to attack the basket and it led to some great looks for us,” noted Coach Clark. “The girls played unselfish basketball that made it hard to guard just one person—we had 14 assists on 19 baskets. We also had 19 offensive rebounds which gave us some great second chance opportunities.”

Annika Johnson and Andie Sandman had 12 points apiece for Park Christian.

Madi Ballweg led us in scoring, but we also had a great supporting group of scorers,” said Clark. “Regan, Ruby, and Ella each played an aggressive and confident game which opened things up for the rest of the team.”

Hillcrest (4-6) snapped a 3 game losing skid with the win.  They will travel to Waubun on Monday night to face Mahnomen-Waubun.
