St. Cloud scored two goals in each period on Tuesday night and had a 32-22 edge in shots on goal as they went on to record a 6-2 win over the Fergus Falls girls’ hockey team.

St. Cloud got on the board first as Molly Burkstrand found the back of the net from Ava Schmidt and Katherine Bell just 28 seconds into the contest.  Tyra Skjeret’s shorthanded, unassisted goal at 2:41 tied the game at 1-1.  St. Cloud went back on top at 7:28 when Burkstrand scored again, this time from Schmidt and Peyton Mathiasen.

Burkstrand completed her hat trick at 4:06 of the second period as Bell and Schmidt earned assists to make it a 3-1 St. Cloud lead.  Bell then scored at 10:42 with assists from Ally Breidenbach and Schmidt.  A power play goal by Piper Andrews at 12:52 brought the Otters back to within two goals at 4-2.  Goalie Ana Jyrkas earned an assist on the goal by Andrews.  Rylynn Krein made it 4-3 at 15:17 off an assist from Hannah Johnson.

Lauren Juncewski scored at 9:29 of the third period from Bell and Breidenbach and Bell finished the scoring at 12:23 with Schmidt earning another assist, her fifth of the night.

“St. Cloud had the better goalie, forwards, defensemen and coach tonight,” commented Fergus Falls Head Coach Tim Lill.  “We were outplayed in every aspect of ice hockey.  Batting the puck around like it’s on fire isn’t a recipe for success.”

Fergus Falls (12-3-1) suffered back-to-back losses for the first time this season.  They will host Northern Lakes on Thursday night.
