Two unbeaten boys’ basketball teams clashed in Henning on Tuesday night and battled through an overtime period before deciding the outcome of the Park Region Conference contest.  Visiting New York Mills won the game, 58-56 to remain undefeated at 10-0 and go to 5-0 in the PRC.  The loss is the first in ten games for the Hornets, who fall to 4-1 in conference action.

The Eagles took a 29-21 lead at the half and then scored the first 14 points of the second half to push their lead to 22 points.  Henning fought all the way back and tied the game with only four seconds left in regulation when eighth-grade guard Kale Misegades delivered a perfect back door pass to Tanner Arndt for the tying bucket.

New York Mills put up 7 overtime points, including their only 3-pointer of the night by Brian Bohn, and held Henning to five OT points.

Tate Olson poured in a game high 27 points to lead the Eagles and Jack Peeters scored 8.

Mason Hammer had a team high 21 points to lead the Hornets and Tyson Misegades had 17, making four 3’s.  Tanner Arndt scored 8 points, dished out 6 assists, grabbed 4 rebounds and came up with a pair of steals.  Kale Misegades and Tyson Misegades were the rebound leaders with 5 and 4, respectively.  Henning shot 32% (21-65) from the field and made only 6-of-28 (21%) from beyond the arc.

“After playing very poorly on both ends of the floor for a majority of the game, we made a furious comeback to force overtime,” reported Henning Head Coach Randy Misegades. “We trailed by as many as 24 points in the second half. I am proud of our guys for never quitting, but we simply need to be more disciplined and play better. New York Mills is a very good team and they deserve credit. We can’t hang our heads as we play twice more this week.”

Henning will play at Bertha-Hewitt on Thursday, while New York Mills goes to Verndale for their next game on Friday.
