Nelson's 27 Leads All Scorers but Arrows Fall in Frazee

The Ashby girls’ basketball team traveled to Frazee for a non-conference game on Monday. The Hornets defeated the Arrows 66-33. After the first half of play the Arrows went into the locker room down by 32 points, with that being said the Arrows came out and played a much better second half of basketball.

“We played a very aggressive and well coached team tonight,” said Ashby Head Coach Brenda Johnson. “The Hornets press and post players gave us fits in the first half. Our young team still has a hard time handling pressure and not letting our opponents’ control the blocks when the ball goes inside.”

Chloe Finkelson did a great job on the defensive boards, securing 8 of them. “She was up grabbing boards that earlier in the season were going through her hands,” noted Johnson.

In the first half the only Arrow who was able to put the ball through the net was Celi Nelson, who finished the night with 27 points to lead all scorers. After the first half the Arrows made some adjustments on offense.

BrookeLinn Finkelson and Nelson worked well together on the offensive end and Brooke finished the night 6 points and 4 blocked shots. “The Finkelson sisters and Nelson really left it all on the floor tonight,” added Coach Johnson. “Those 3 rarely get a break unless they are in foul trouble. The Behrens sisters and Lucy Ohren gave the Arrows valuable minutes on both ends of the floor. Sophomore Ashley Paulson, a starter for us, has to help bring the ball up the floor in the heat of intense pressure, she continues to improve each game. The Arrows really showed me tonight that regardless of the score on the board they aren't going to leave a gym without giving 100%. So proud of the continued progress that this team is showing us in each game.”

The Arrows travel to Rothsay Tuesday night for a LEC contest.
