The Underwood girls’ basketball team took the short drive to Battle Lake for a Little Eight Conference matchup on Friday night.  The Rockets led 17-16 at the half and came out on top, 42-38, improving their season record to 9-1.  Battle Lake fell to 7-3 with the loss.

“Tonight was a battle by two conference rivals that know each other very well,” stated Underwood Head Coach Brian Hovland.  “Most of the first half both teams traded the lead back and forth.  In the second half, Mo Bugbee scored 13 of her game high 19 points.  The girls did a great job of finding her when she was in the post.  We had some really key contributors off the bench as Becca Johnson hit a big 3 and a free throw in the second half and Alayna Evavold hit two huge free throws late in the game.”

Bugbee added 5 rebounds, Kallyn Grove scored 7 points, Liz Lukken had 5 points and 7 boards and Ezrah Baker had 3 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals.

Grace VanErp led the lady Battlers with 13 points and Ady Tysdal chipped in with 10 points.

“The game was close throughout as both teams struggled in the first half to score consistently,” said Battle Lake Head Coach David Marso.  “Bugbee was just too much for us in the second half.”

Underwood will host Hillcrest on Tuesday and Hancock on Friday, while Battle Lake faces New York Mills on Tuesday at home and goes to Fergus Falls on Friday to take on Hillcrest.
