Wheaton/Herman-Norcross dropped a pair of games at the Perham Grand8 Tournament, losing to Sauk Centre 63-47 on Tuesday and dropping a tight 70-68 contest to Paynesville on Wednesday.

In the Sauk Centre game the Mainstreeters shot 40% from the field and the Warriors made only 30% of their field goal attempts.  Sauk Centre held a 42-31 edge on the boards.

We were able to stay with Sauk for the first half,” said Head Coach Jordon Roos of Wheaton/Herman-Norcross, “but we struggled to score in the second half and they pulled away. This game was great competition for us and we worked hard and competed all game.”

The Warriors were led by Dylan Bainbridge (16 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals) and Clint Determan (15 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists).  Andrew Walker added 8 points and 4 rebounds.  Zach Braaten and Brayden Hofer each had 3 assists.

Bainbridge and Determan each scored 27 points in the loss to Paynesville.  Determan completed a double-double by snaring 11 rebounds, 6 on the offensive boards.  Bainbridge and Braaten each distributed 4 assists, while Determan and Braaten had 3 steals apiece.  Caden Spilde chipped in with 7 points and pulled down 9 rebounds.  Hofer added 7 rebounds.

“This was a very fun game to be a part of, but sadly we didn’t end up on top,” reported Coach Roos. “We were able to do many things well with force turnovers, rebound, run the floor, but we didn’t knock some shots down and turned over the ball too much to win the game. We had one scoring drought in the second half that really hurt us as well.”

Both teams shot 39% from the floor and the Warriors held a 42-35 advantage on the boards.  Each team also had 20 turnovers on the night.

Wheaton/Herman-Norcross (4-2) will resume play with a home game on Tuesday against West Central Area.
