M State Men Gain Season Split with Northland

The M State Men’s Basketball team avenged an early loss in Thief River Falls with an 80-70 victory over the Northland Pioneers on Saturday afternoon in Fergus Falls. 

 

Langston Davis had a big day for the Spartans, pouring in 25 points and pulling down 10 rebounds.  Renell Edwards added 13 points and 5 assists, Mert Taylor had 11 points and 4 steals and Tyler Loe had 10 points.  Brett Engelmeyer contributed 8 points and 5 steals off the bench.

The Spartans hit 29-of-83 (34.9%) field goal attempts and 11-of-43 (25.6%) 3’s.  They also were successful on 11-of-15 (73.3%) free throw opportunities.  M State had 20 steals in the contest, forcing 33 turnovers.

Northland shot 50.8% (31-61) from the field and made 5-of-12 (41.7%) 3-pointers.  They also held a 40-36 edge on the boards.  They were led by Quincy Leday (21 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists), Ryan England (17 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists) and D’Mani Nettles (13 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists).  Zack Meyer contributed 6 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists).

M State (5-2) will travel to Cloquet Friday for a 7:00pm game against Fond du Lac and will play NDSCS in Wahpeton on Sunday at 2:00pm.
