DeBrito's Five Point Night Leads Otters Past Willmar

Michael DeBrito had 4 goals and one assist to lead Fergus Falls to a 12-0 Central Lakes Conference boys’ hockey victory over Willmar on Saturday night at the Community Arena.  His fifth point of the game was the 100th point of his career.  Fergus Falls put 46 shots on goal and Willmar had only 11 shots.

“It was a sound team effort from the start of the game,” said Head Coach Mike Donaghue of the Otters.  “We scored three power play goals and a shorthanded goal.”

Carter Thielke got the Otters on the scoreboard with a goal 8:13 into the first period.  Isaac Johnson and goalie Ben Swanson earned assists on the goal.  Cole Zierden scored from Thielke and Owen Babolian at 12:32 and DeBrito got his first goal of the night off an assist from Andrew Johnson to make it 3-0.  Shane Zierden’s goal at 16:17 was assisted by Jax Katzenmeyer and DeBrito got his first goal of the game at 16:25 from Kellen Stenstrom and Landon Thacker to give the Otters a 5-0 lead after the first period.

DeBrito notched his second of the game twenty seconds into the second period with assists from Thacker and Stenstrom.  A power play goal by Isaac Johnson at 1:36 was assisted by Cole Zierden.  Stenstrom added back to back goals at 7:16 and 16:24 as the Otters built their lead to 9-0.  Colin Becker and Thacker assisted on his first goal and DeBrito earned the lone assist on his second goal.

DeBrito completed his scoring with a goal thirty-six seconds into the third period, assisted by Andrew Johnson and Thacker.  At 6:50 Griffin Babolian scored from Brayden Nelson and Joey Johnson’s power play goal at 16:15 from Andrew Johnson and Becker ended the scoring on the night.
