Third Period Comeback Attempt Falls Short as Alexandria Boys Fall 3-2

Sartell-St. Stephen scored a shorthanded goal, an even strength goal and a power play goal to build a 3-0 lead over Alexandria after two periods of their high school boys’ hockey game at Bernick’s Arena in Sartell on Tuesday night.  The Cardinals mounted a third period comeback with a pair of goals, but came up one short as they took a 3-2 loss.

A shorthanded goal by Tommy Franke at 8:22 of the first period gave the Sabres a 1-0 lead.  Billy Vogt and Tory Lund earned assists on the goal.  Lund scored an even strength goal from Carter Bollinger at 3:42 of the second period for a 2-0 lead and then added a power play goal, assisted by Vogt and Teddy McCabe at 10:37 of the second to increase the lead to 3-0.

Alexandria fought back with a goal from Brycen Berg, assisted by Josiah Gronholz, at 4:20 of the third period and got to within a goal when Gronholz scored from Leo KIompelien and Tyler Kludt with 33 seconds remaining in the game.

Sartell-St. Stephen goalie Noah Hacker came up with 19 saves and Teagan Pfeffer stopped 14 shots in the Alexandria net.
