Royals Put 45 Shots on Goal in 3-1 Win Over Alexandria Girls

Alexandria hosted Rogers in a high school girls’ hockey contest at the Runestone Community Center on Tuesday night with the Royals putting 45 shots on the Cardinals net in a 3-1 victory.

Ava Johansson scored at 15:02 of the first period with assists from Sydney Bailey and Kamryn Messer to give Rogers a 1-0 lead.

After a scoreless second period Johansson tallied an unassisted goal at 5:50 of the third to give the Royals a 2-0 lead, however, MaKenna Aure scored at 15:17 to cut the lead in half.  Lauren Maras assisted on the Cardinals only goal of the night.  McKenna Sandberg got the final goal of the game with 47 seconds remaining, assisted by Leah Hatcher.

Alexandria goalie Jordan O’Kane stood up well under the pressure of facing 45 shots, as she turned aside 40 of them.  Alexa Backmann stopped 25 of the 26 shots she faced in the Rogers net.
